- 14 May 2001 (Saturday night special), 12 midnight – 2 AM, EST; I Love the 90s…the Golden Age of House Music. I’ve you are down to get your 90s fix on, this will be the time to get it in…

- 22 May 2011, 8 – 10 PM, EST; DJ Purple Pre-Birthday Mix. Actual birthday is 27 May, but I expect to celebrate since that is a Friday and that also happens to be the holiday weekend…no work for me!

“PRYME VEKTOR” SOUL REVIVAL SPECIAL - Birthday Mix for Mom – Feb 2011 - February 19, 2011

Wed, Feb 23 at 8:00 PM – 10:00 PM, EST

o Host:
o DJ Purple (the duke of House)

www.radio.jerseydjs.com

February 24 is my mother’s birthday. As recent tradition dictates it’s time for the birthday celebration mix, this time in the “Pryme Vektor” show slot, and as the “Soul Revival” special. Tradition also dictates that we go afro-centric style…

I invite you to join me in celebrating another birthday in the original show format: 1st Half – unmixed with disco and a little bit of African vibes for good measure; 2nd Half – club mixed, and featuring more deep afro-flavors for your listening pleasure.

While you’re listening you can also join the chat room…

New Date/Time for "Soul Revival" - November 24, 2010

SOUL REVIVAL on Jerseydjs.com will now air on Sundays 8PM - 10 PM EST...

SOUL REVIVAL 4-Year Anniversary – Sep 2010 - August 29, 2010

It is amazing how time flies. “Soul Revival” will now enter year number four as an internet radio mixshow for Jerseydjs.com. To have this milestone is special for more than one reason. First, it will be the first broadcasting from my new residence in the metropolitan Chicagoland area; since Chicago is my hometown the anniversary show will actually be a ‘homecoming’ of sorts. The other reason that this is special is that although the mixshow will be four years running, the Soul Revival ‘brand’ is much older, ten years to be exact. [The first “Soul Revival” CD demo mix that I recorded was on October 14, 2000]

I invite you to join me as I celebrate by giving you an extended play: 5 hours of soul/dance music, and a throwback to the original show format…1st Half – unmixed, and featuring classic tracks that will be guaranteed to blow your mind; 2nd Half – club mixed, and featuring the hottest tracks of today and yesteryear!

While you’re listening you can also join the chat room…

Tune in via www.radio.jerseydjs.com on Saturday September 25, 7PM – 12AM, EST

Watch your time zones: the show will start at 7PM, EST (New York)/6PM, CST (Chicago)/5PM MST (Denver)/4PM PST (Los Angeles)

SOUL REVIVAL…FEEL THE FIRE!

New Projects - August 29, 2010

Friends,

In order to demonstrate my undying love of House Music I will be embarking on two fun projects simultaneously. The first will consist of me listening to my old cassette tapes onto which I recorded hot mixes from the Chicago radio stations – my single focus will be WKKC, 89.3 FM. The aim is to document the many different DJs I was exposed to over the number of years that recorded the shows. The second project will be to simply post photos of those tapes – this one will be a continuous project as I can simply create a folder for the photo album and add to it as I finish each tape.

Strap yourselves in…

Internet Radio Broadcasting Notes: Relocation to Chicago - June 22, 2010

I have been given reassignment orders to Chicago this summer and as a result the “Soul Revival” and Pryme Vektor” internet radio mixshows on Jerseydjs.com will be in a short hiatus. Since my departure is imminent I will be broadcasting older shows in order to fill the airtimes; once my belongings are packed and moved I will be off-air. Once I get settled at my new residence I will be able to continue to bring you the weekly shows for your entertainment. I anticipate that the entire process should last from now until mid-August, which will be near the time of the four-year anniversary of “Soul Revival”.

Join me on 11 June 2010 as I throw down the deepest house grooves one last time in the Salt Lake Valley. I have relocation orders to Chicago and now it’s time to wind down. This show will be very special - and appropriate for the occasion. I have enjoyed my previous 13 months as a UtahFM disc jockey and I will always treasure the experience.

Internet Radio Programming Notes - March 23, 2010

Due to a family emergency I will not broadcast any internet radio shows for the next three weeks; I should be able to go again on April 16th.

Technical Issues Resolved - February 27, 2010

Great news!

The technical issues with the encoder have been resolved. Soul Revival and Pryme Vektor are back in effect immediately. Due to free space I will be able to broadcast a double-set beginning with the original projected New Year’s show, followed by the Belated Birthday Mix for Mom. These shows will be re-broadcast in two weeks when I return from a business trip.

Special thanks to all who waited patiently with me. It feels great to be back up and in the game again.

Internet Radio Programming Notes – Feb 2010 - February 13, 2010

Not too long ago I announced that I would be upgrading equipment and I also anticipated that I would be able to return to broadcasting my internet radio shows, “Soul Revival” and “Pryme Vektor” via Jerseydjs.com. I was successfully able to accomplish only one of the two goals: upgrading the equipment. Due to technical issues concerning my PC-encoder ‘interface’ I will not be able to broadcast shows via Jerseydjs.com, until further notice. I am confident that the issues will be resolved once the PC is examined by a professional “geek”, and the good news is that I can still broadcast “Afterhours (a deep house session)” via UtahFM.org, operating out of Salt Lake City, Utah. In the meantime I will not be sending any more “notes” concerning the status of the troubleshooting – I would rather just send an announcement once I am ready to broadcast the Jerseydjs.com shows again.

Internet Radio Programming Notes – Jan 2010 - January 15, 2010

As 2010 rolls on, my goal is to continue to rock the box with the hottest and most eclectic sounds. With that, I do have some disappointing news concerning two of my internet radio mixshows which are broadcast on www.jerseydjs.com. Due to equipment issues “Soul Revival” with DJ Purple and “Pryme Vektor” with DJ Optymus Pryme will be on hiatus for an undetermined amount of time. The main objective for me is to upgrade an important piece of equipment and I am determined to install quality; this will take a little time. Once the equipment issues are resolved I can get back to the “business” of entertainment.

While this is indeed a disappointment, all is not lost. My third internet radio mixshow, “Afterhours (a deep house session)”, on www.UtahFM.org, is not affected as the show is broadcast from the studio of Utah Free Media, downtown Salt Lake City. You can continue to check me out on Friday nights.

The best is yet to come!

“On Sep 2, 2006 I realized my dream of hosting a house music radio show by launching “Soul Revival” on Jerseydjs.com. This was a brand new experience for me and was met with a few exciting challenges. It was also extremely gratifying for me to be able to play my brand of soulful music for an audience, and to be included in a dynamic roster of skilled DJs. After all, my vision of Soul Revival was “an opportunity to dig back into the roots of House Music: a soulful, melodic, and spiritual clubbing experience”. Three years (and several “Spotlight Mixes”) later the show is still in full effect, and I invite you to join me as I celebrate by taking things back to the original show format: 1st Hour – unmixed, and featuring classic tracks; 2nd Hour – club mixed, and featuring the hottest current tracks! House Music “Triple Crown” in Salt Lake City - August 2, 2009

I have been very busy over the course of the last 8 weeks. First there was the business trip to Cheyenne, WY, where on some free time I found a vinyl record store and bought some old school goodies. Then there was my annual vacation time in the hometown of Chicago – the birthplace of House Music. Last week I played a minor role in supporting the Springville World Folkfest which was a sight to behold. Now I will embark in yet another adventure this weekend as I gear up for the “triple crown” in Salt Lake City.

Friday (Saturday morning) - Aug 7:

“Afterhours (a deep house session)” – www.UtahFM.org, 12:30 AM – 2:00 AM, EST. I will be putting down some smooth/jazzy/funky/soulful grooves.

Saturday- Aug 8:

“Soul Revival” – www.radio.jerseydjs.com, 11:00 PM – 1:00 AM, EST. I will be presenting a special classic and obscure Disco mix, just for the old school Househeads (LTHS c/o 89 take note!). After the show I will actually be heading to the W Lounge in downtown Salt Lake City to investigate the sounds of Big City House as the guest DJ will be Frankie J from Chi-Town.

Sunday - Aug 9:

“Volleyball Sundays” at Liberty Park (Salt Lake City), 4:00 – 9:00, EST (4:00 – 7:00, MST). I will be the guest, along with resident DJ Danny Dance, www.danceisafeeling.com. For this set I have some tricks up my sleeve, to include a couple of classics that will be played at just the right time. (Salt Lake people – you’ve been served notice!)

Get ready for a “jam” packed weekend!

One more note (for the ‘Grand Slam’):

The following Tuesday (Aug 11) will bring more goodies for the discriminating ear, as “Pryme Vektor” kicks in on www.radio.jerseydjs.com, 10:00 PM – 12 midnight, EST. 80’s classics for your listening pleasure (LTHS c/o 89…take note again!)

MJ Tribute on Soul Revival - July 20, 2009

A few weeks ago the world stood still as we absorbed the loss of an icon in the form of Michael Jackson. Since his passing there have been swarms of tribute parties and celebrations of his life, both on radio and in the clubs. It is now my turn to add some of my flavor into the mix. For my return to the decks on SOUL REVIVAL this Saturday, July 25th, from 11:00 PM – 1:00 AM, EST, I will hold a tribute show that will be – in a word – unique. The listening audience is guaranteed a treat – just make sure you log in at www.radio.jerseydjs.com.

Rest in peace Michael – you will probably never know how much you were loved!

Math and the Art of Spinning Records - June 4, 2009

I am currently taking an online course in Introductory Algebra (MATH 009), which is a pre-requisite for future upper level technical courses. A few days ago I submitted a "blog" in the Virtual Student Lounge:

"Math and the Art of Spinning Records

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here is the long story (referencing my introduction):

I've been a DJ for over 15 years now. I have just recently realized how mathematics can be used in the "art" of playing records.

One aspect deals with putting together compilations. When I made demo tapes/CDs, I'd be concerned with the max amount of working time I had: for cassettes it was 30, 45, or 60 mins on each side and for CDs it was 74 or 80 mins. I'd also be concerned with how many records I could fit into the demo before time expired. To ensure that I did not cut things off prematurely I'd end the "mix" no later than 30 seconds before my max allowed time (-00:30).

Another aspect is centered on "crowd control" and psychology but is rooted in pure math, and that's the tempo of the songs. My specialty is playing in the dance clubs where I can beat-mix (club mix) records by blending records of the same beat all night. Sounds simple, but it really is not. This is because of the tool that mix DJs must use: the beat count(BPM). The BPM is represented by the number of times a beat is stuck in 1 minute. For instance, a tempo of 124 BPM means that in 1 minute a beat is struck 124 times - this is my favorite tempo. Some records are slower while others are faster, and that is where one of a few decisions gets made. In my experience, the crowd and the theme of the venue determines the tempo that I play records in. If I have a crowd that likes the tempo slower then I can maybe play my 124 BPM records at the normal speed. My records that are 125 BPM could match the tempo with almost no problem , but if I have a 127 BPM record I'd have to adjust the "pitch shift" on the turntable to a slower speed and "convert" the 127 to a 124. Conversely, if I need to play at a faster tempo I could be playing at 128 BPM and I would have to shift some of my slower records to the faster tempo.

So, there you have it. I had always known that there would always be a use for math, and now that has been greatly amplified. The next time I get into a situation where someone questions the need for math or where it can be used I can simply say that it's not just used in business - it's used in entertainment also."

Note: my instructor will be using my "blog" for future classes...

Internet Radio Shows – programming notes - May 28, 2009

Today I am leaving town for a business trip that will last approximately 7 weeks. During that time I will not be hosting my internet radio shows, “Pryme Vektor” and “Soul Revival” on Jerseydjs.com. In the place of “Soul Revival” you can expect to hear more dynamic music courtesy of DJ FM, and the “Baby Powder Sessions” in the extended mix. “Afterhours (a deep house session)” on UtahFM.org will not be hosted by me either; however, there will be coverage by a substitute DJ. As always I encourage you to check out any of the shows on Jerseydjs.com as well as UtahFM.org – there is a wide range of cool music just waiting to be heard!

I’ll be back at the helm on July 24th.

Afterhours (a deep house session) Internet Radio Show/Pre-Birthday Mixdown! - May 20, 2009

On May 22, 2009, I will be conducting the Pre-Birthday Mixdown on “Afterhours (a deep house session)”. This show will be my birthday celebration, so mark your calendar and clear your schedule!

Friday, 12:30PM – 2:00AM, EST (10:30PM – 12:00AM, MST),
from the studio of Utah Free Media (where volunteer, grassroots broadcasting lives online) - www.utahfm.org.

"Deep House Music incorporating smooth/jazzy/funky/soulful grooves, designed to cool down your evening..."

Spotlight Mix #1 - May 2009 - April 25, 2009

There comes a time in the course of a radio show when the host is at the mercy of the vibe of the show and the show takes on a life of its own. This is that time for SOUL REVIVAL. Since 2008 the Spotlight Mixes have been focusing on Chicago artists, largely due to Chicago being my hometown. This time the House drive will take us to New Jersey, where historically the vibe has been just as deep and vibrant as in Chicago. For two hours I intend to intrigue, amaze and simply overwhelm you with the seriously deep sounds that were produced by this master innovator of the House scene. His name is synonymous with pure genius. I invite you to join me as we take a “journey into sound”.

Tune in via www.radio.jerseydjs.com on Saturday May 2, 11PM – 1AM, EST, when I will play jams by the one and only KERRI “KAOZ 6:23” CHANDLER!

Spotlight Mix - April 2009 - April 19, 2009

After a lengthy absence it is now time for another Spotlight Mix on SOUL REVIVAL. This time I will eliminate the suspense and simply state that the subject of my mix is a Chicago living legend and original member of the Hot Mix 5: Ralphi Rosario. He’s been the maestro of the decks and the remix for a number of years and his name is relevant worldwide. My mix will include some favorite gems.
Tune in via www.radio.jerseydjs.com on Saturday April 25, 11PM – 1AM, EST!

Update on Afterhours (a deep house session) Internet Radio Show - April 19, 2009

Due to unavoidable circumstances the launch will need to be delayed by one week. New date: May 2nd.

Afterhours (a deep house session) Internet Radio Show - April 10, 2009

On April 24, 2009, I will be hosting a brand new internet raido show, entitled “Afterhours (a deep house session)”. This show will be patterned after my promotional mix cds of the same name. The theme of the show will be: "Deep House Music incorporating smooth/jazzy/funky/soulful grooves, designed to cool down your evening..." The show will be broadcast on Fridays, 12:30PM – 2:00AM, EST (10:30PM – 12:00AM, MST),
from the studio of Utah Free Media (where volunteer, grassroots broadcasting lives online) - www.utahfm.org.
